TMC Hosts Texas School Readiness Leadership Summit
McAllen, TX – TMC’s Texas School Ready! Program in partnership with the Children’s Learning Institute at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston hosted a Texas School Readiness Leadership Summit on Monday, May 25 in McAllen, TX.
The Summit featured Moderator Rick Diaz (News Director Channel 5 News), Layne Waxley (Children’s Learning Institute) who provided insight into the proven research-based approaches to high-quality early childhood education, Superintendent Dr. Daniel King (Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD) who stressed the importance of early education programs as children enter the school district, Dr. Isaias Rodriguez (La Joya ISD/UTPA Professor) who discussed the importance of community-based school readiness approaches to delivering high-quality early childhood education, Manuel Ochoa (TMC Regional Administrator) who stressed the importance of the K-12 program and the role Head Start plays in the development of a child as they prepare for the first grade, Jackie Gillon (Little Shining Stars Daycare) who stressed the importance of the Circle program and the important role the TSR Mentor plays in the development of the children in day care, and Jenny Newcomb (Workforce Solutions) who painted a picture of the present workforce and the effect early education will have in the development of tomorrow’s Rio Grande Valley economy.
“This summit was held to bring together early education leaders, policymakers, community officials, and researchers to highlight achievements, explore current issues, and raise awareness about the incredible school readiness efforts and partnerships formed in local communities throughout our Rio Grande Valley”, stated Mary Capello, TMC – President/CEO.
