TMC Announces Donation to Head Start Program
Rio Grande City, TX – As TMC Head Start prepares for next year, plans have begun to develop for a Head Start Center to be built on land donated by Mr. Dario Garza and DOG Development. The center will be located in the Rio Vista Commercial Development complex.
“We have a need for Head Start in Rio Grande City. When Mary Capello told me there is a waiting list to serve children I immediately wanted to help.” stated Dario Garza. Mr. Garza, with the help of Councilman Dave Jones, Mayor Ruben Villarreal, Starr County Judge Eloy Vera and Commissioner Abel Cantu presented TMC President & CEO Mary Capello, joined by Board Member Leonel Lopez, with the deed to 7 acres of land located at FM755 and Country Estates Dr.
“We are very excited to partner with DOG Development and become a part of the Rio Vista Development Project. We thank Mr. Dario Garza for his wonderful donation”, stated Mary Capello – President/CEO.
TMC’s has been serving Head Start children in Starr County since 2008. TMC manages more than 800 children in its Head Start program in Starr, Zapata and Webb Counties. In Starr County, TMC cares for more than 500 children in 15 centers. Also, TMC manages 7,975 children in its Migrant Seasonal Head Start program with over 70 centers in eight states.
The mission of TMC is to help children and families in emerging diverse communities by creating opportunities for advancement through education, training and other resources in collaboration with public and private partners.
