TMC – Teaching and Mentoring Communities is a non-profit corporation committed to empowering children and families in emerging communities by creating opportunities for advancement through education, training and other resources in collaboration with public and private partners. Recognized as one of the Top 10 Super Head Start Programs in the nation, TMC serves more than 8,000 children of migrant and seasonal farm workers. Our programs also serve approximately 800 Head Start and Early Head Start children and over 20,000 families within child care or workforce programs. TMC operates programs in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Nevada, Iowa and New Mexico.
TMC will be hosting a conference entitled Early Care and Education: The Zero to Five Challenge on October 29-31, 2009 at the Convention Center in South Padre Island, Texas. We believe this conference aligns perfectly with President Obama’s message of improving the quality of early childhood education by ensuring that all our young children are ready to enter kindergarten. The program will reflect President Obama’s commitment to provide the support that our youngest children need to achieve academic success. We have invited legislators, policy makers, university scholars, experts on children’s issues and other stakeholders from across the country to participate with childcare providers and early childhood educators from Head Start, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and other quality early education programs.
